| MUSEUM/AOMORIは、青森市三内丸山縄文遺跡のとなりの「芸術パーク」につくられる県立美術館である。開館は平成16（2004）年の予定。常設展示、企画展示に加えて、レジデンシャルを含む創作部門やメディアセンターなど、「観せる」だけの美術館でなく、活動型の企画が充実しているのが特徴である。総床面積は約14000平方メートル。 展示室は、ホワイトキューブと「土の展示室」の2種類の空間から成る。「土の展示室」には、となりの縄文遺跡がもつ「発掘現場」の質が受け継がれている。床は三和土（タタキ）、壁は版築（ハンチク）。現地の土をつかって床、壁がつくりあげられる。 縄文の記憶は青森の精神的遺産であり、その象徴が三内丸山縄文遺跡である。遺跡に訪れると、土から掘り出された遺構が圧倒的な力で目に飛び込んでくる。そこには、発掘現場ならではの幾何学的に掘られた土の景がある。そういう場所だからこそできる空間をそのまま展示室にすること、それがこの美術館のつくりかたの基本的な目標である。 「土の展示室」は、サイトスペシフィックな美術作品を喚起する。青森のこの場所だからこそできる空間がそこにまずある。だからそこに展示を行なうことは、その空間と対決することである。対決の結果が作品になる。「発掘現場」の質を備えた高さ5メートルの厚い土の壁と、天井高さ10メートルの巨大な強い空間に立ち向かうことが期待されている。 孤立したひとつの建物が美術館ではなく、アートサークル一帯で美術館である。まずアートサークルに絡みながら、「発掘現場」のように大地に縦横にトレンチ（壕）が刻まれる。そのトレンチの網目全体が展示空間であり、創作ヤードである。トレンチの網目は土の上向きに凸凹なランドスケープをつくる。その一部に下向きに凸凹の構築物を噛み合わせる。平面的にひろがる橋のような構築物である。すると、上向きの凸凹と下向きに凸凹の間に隙間の空間が生まれる。そこが「土の展示室」である。 |
MUSEUM/AOMORI is a prefectural museum located in the Art Park adjoining the Sannai-Maruyama Jomon relics in Aomori city. The museum is scheduled to open in 2004. Besides exhibition spaces the museum will also have studio space, a media centre and residential facilities to support the activities of the artists as well as the display of their work. The total floor area of the museum is about 14,000m2.
The Exhibition spaces consist of two different types of space; the "White Cube" and the "Gallery of the Earth". From the adjoining Jomon relics, the "Gallery of the Earth" takes its form from the "unearthed" character of the site. This space is earth-floored, while its walls are also earth-walled. The floors and the walls are made out of the local soil. The memory of the Jomon era is the spiritual heritage of Aomori, and its symbol is the Sannai-Maruyama Jomon relics. When visiting the relics, we are overwhelmed to see trenches dug out of the soil. It is this geometrical view of earth which is characteristic of the site through its "unearthing". To form this kind of space into the exhibition space without changing its nature is the fundamental strategy behind the building of the museum. The "Gallery of the Earth" is reminiscent of site-specific works. Firstly the space is characteristic of its site and environment. It is intended that the works exhibited here are informed by this dialogue and that it cannot avoid a confrontation with these huge "unearthed" spaces, the walls of which are 5 meters high and the ceiling 10 meters high. This single building cannot operate the museum on its own. The whole area of the Art Circle is the museum. Relating to the Art Circle, trenches are inscribed along the earth, as with the site under "unearthing". The entire grid of the trenches serves as the exhibition space, and at the same time, the creation yard. The grid of the trenches makes the surface of the earth uneven. Attached to some parts of the grid are structures, the bottom of which are also unevenly made. Interstitial spaces emerge between these two uneaven surfaces.
